ENGLISH
Here you will find my English coursework showcase, featuring creative and thoughtfully developed assignments that reflect my academic journey throughout my university career. These works demonstrate my growth as an educator of English as a Second Language (ESL) and highlight how I continue to evolve as a future English teacher.
INGL 3221 – Introduction to Literature
This course emphasizes enhancing critical thinking skills while examining how students evolve and broaden their understanding through reading and writing.
Analyzing Literary Elements in Short Stories
Reflection
In this assignment, I had to analyze the themes in three of Kate Chopin’s short stories and turn my ideas into a presentation. Instead of just summarizing the stories, I focused on understanding the deeper messages about identity, freedom, racism, gender roles, and society. I read each story carefully and looked for the main ideas that connected them.
I compared how each story explored similar themes in different ways, like prejudice in “Désirée’s Baby,” self-indulgence in “A Pair of Silk Stockings,” and freedom in “The Story of an Hour.” I also researched Kate Chopin’s background to better understand why these themes were important in her writing.

INGL 4205 - LINGUISTIC THEORY
This course is designed for students majoring in English (Arts and Education). It provides for an understanding of contemporary theories concerning the nature of second language acquisition and handling.
Linguistic Knowledge
Reflection
In this assignment, we had to connect linguistics with real ESL teaching. I focused on phonology and syntax and explained how they help teachers understand students’ pronunciation and grammar struggles. I also had to use the textbook and research to support the ideas and show practical classroom strategies like minimal pairs and clear grammar instruction. Overall, the task helped me see how linguistic theory actually translates into everyday teaching decisions and how it can make lessons more effective and supportive for English learners.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky
Reflection
For this assignment, we had to create a Book Talk about The Perks of Being a Wallflower. I researched the author, summarized the plot, explained the main characters, and highlighted important quotes and themes. The goal was to present the book in a way that makes others interested in reading it and ready for discussion. It helped me practice organizing information, focusing on key literary elements, and presenting a novel in a clear and engaging way.
Literature-Based Instruction Graphic Organizer
Reflection
This assignment had us design a literature-based plan using The Perks of Being a Wallflower. We organized themes, genres, and subject areas, then planned activities for before, during, and after reading. I liked how everything connected to students’ real lives, like journaling, writing letters, and comparing the book to the movie. It made the lesson feel interactive and meaningful instead of just reading and answering questions. Overall, it helped me see how to build engaging lessons around a novel.

Creating Assignments: Helping Students Learn How To Write In English
Reflection
This assignment was all about creating activities that help students practice English in different ways. We designed tasks for writing essays, analyzing characters, analyzing ads, making connections, and even researching something unsettling. I liked how it mixed creativity with critical thinking and teamwork. It made me realize how important it is to give students varied, engaging tasks so they can practice reading, writing, speaking, and analyzing in a fun way.
Teaching Writing Portfolio
Reflection
This assignment had us put together a full teaching writing portfolio that showed everything we learned in the course. We created our teaching beliefs, designed five writing activities, built a mini-lesson, and made assessment tools like a rubric and checklist. It really made me think about the writing process, planning lessons, and how to support students step by step.
