Starry Night Sky

Activity #1

Instructions:

Before astronauts can choose the best planet to explore, they first need to learn about all the planets in the Solar System. In this activity, you will work with your astronaut team to complete your Solar System Exploration Booklet. As you research, you will record important facts, color each planet, and write down special features that make each one unique. By the end, your booklet will help your team make a smart choice about which planet would be the best one to explore.

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Begin by writing your group number and each team member’s name next to their role: researcher, writer, designer, and presenter.

  2.  Work together to research each planet using the websites and resources provided by your teacher

  3. Complete one Planet Information Chart for each planet in your booklet.

  4. On each page, include:

    •  the planet’s name

    • the name of the website you used

    • the planet’s temperature

    • the planet’s size

    • the number of moons

    • two special features

    • how many Earth days it takes to orbit the Sun

    • how many Earth days it takes to rotate

    • the planet’s place from the Sun

  5. Color each planet using the colors that best match its real appearance.

  6. Make sure your work is neat, complete, and written in your own words.

  7. When your booklet is finished, use what you learned to help your team decide which planet is the best one to explore.
